Addendum to Employment Contract for Research Stays, including Fieldwork and Sabbaticals, Abroad
This addendum must be filled out by employees who are going on a mobility stay abroad for more than one month, in accordance with the Working Environment Act § 14-7. This agreement does not apply to remote work. Nor does it apply to work covered by the special agreement on expeditions or travel abroad (tjenestereise).

Terms and conditions
Terms for repatriation
When staying outside Norway, necessary expenses for the treatment of illness and/or injury, as well as documented expenses for possible transport home, are covered by national insurance, other schemes, and/or credit card travel insurance. In other cases, UiB must be contacted through the relevant unit.
Member of the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme
The agreement applies only to employees with Norwegian/EU citizenship. These individuals have mandatory membership in the National Insurance Scheme. For others, an agreement must be specially prepared by the International Centre.
Occupational Injury Insurance
The University of Bergen is a state university and, as such, operates as a self-insured entity. Employees who hold valid membership in the Norwegian National Insurance Scheme are covered by occupational injury insurance provided by the State Pension Fund (spk.no) even during agreed-upon stays abroad
Mandatory taxes to Norway
UiB is obligated to pay employer’s contributions to Norway.
Employees obligations
Potential tax or other obligations
If the employee travels to a country to which the employee has tax obligations, or to a country outside the EU, with which Norway does not have a tax treaty, the employee must examine his tax obligations.
Proof of citizenship or a valid work permit
The employee must hold citizenship or obtain a residence permit for work in the country of employment where required.
Traveler’s insurance
The employee must have valid travel insurance for the entire duration of the stay.
Travelers recommendation
Employees must comply with travel recommendations from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and their own country’s authorities. See https://www.regjeringen.no/no/tema/utenrikssaker/reiseinformasjon/id2413163/.
Registration of travel with UD
The employee must register their travel with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, see https://www.reiseregistrering.no/. Applies only to persons with Norwegian citizenship.
Another employer
The employee must not take on other employers than UiB during the stay abroad (exceptions apply forsecondary positions).
IT security
In the event of travel to a country subject to Norwegian export restrictions, it is necessary to obtain clearance from the IT department at UiB regarding transporting IT equipment. Additionally, access to the UiB network through VPN must be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

The University of Bergen is a government funded university. Government funded universities in Norway are self-insured. Employees at the University of Bergen with a valid membership in the National insurance scheme are covered by occupational insurance in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund (spk.no) also during the agreed mobility period.
