General regulations for the use of computer network and e-mail system at Kunst- og designhøgskolen i Bergen (KHIB).

1 Range of application

1.1

These regulations apply to all use of KHiB’s computer equipment, i.e. all hardware (generic and special computers and all network components) and software purchased and administered by KHiB.

1.2

The regulations also apply to private computer equipment when this is connected to KHiB’s network.

2 Information and following up regulations

2.1

Definitions.

E-mail account: A user’s defined access to KHiB’s mail system.

Username: A unique symbolic name, which identifies the user of an e-mail account.

Password: A personal key. Must be provided in addition to a username to get access to an e-mail account.

2.2

E-mail accounts are strictly personal. To log on using, or attempting to use other peoples usernames and passwords are prohibited. It is illegal to pass oneself off as somebody else when using e-mail.

2.3

It is the user’s duty to safeguard the password. If a user knows or suspects that their password is known to others, the IT Department must be notified and the password changed.

3 Using the computers and computer network

3.1

It is the user’s duty to prevent unauthorized access to computers and computer network as well as rooms with accessible equipment.

3.2

Users must not make use of KHiB’s computer equipment to perform actions that are in definance of Norwegian law, such as put forward defamations, download or distribute pornography.

3.3

It is the user’s duty to report to the ICT department situations that may have significance for the security of the computer network.

3.4

The ICR department may impose certain routines to secure the function and operational stability of the computer network.

4 Copyright

4.1

Installed software is placed at the user’s disposal on those terms of licence laid down by the copyright holder. It is the user’s duty to abstain from illegal use of installed software. Software must not be copied without permission from the copyright holder.

4.2

Material that is to be published online must be checked for copyright protection. If the material is copyrighted, users must get the necessary permission to publish it.

4.3

Users are personally liable to any legal or financial claim put forward by the copyright holders if an infringement of copyright has occurred.

5 End of study

5.1

When the study ends users must clear their e-mail account.

5.2

When a user’s study ends the IT-department will close the e-mail account and delete remaining contents. This will happen 3 weeks after the account is closed.

6 Infringement of these regulations

6.1

Users that infringe these regulations may be excluded from all parts of KHiB’s computer network.

6.2

All infringements of the regulations must be reported to the appropriate Department, which will then be responsible for the further handling of the case.
